I saw Burl Ives perform solo in Sturgis SD about 15-20 years ago (a year or 2 before he died). It was at a museum dedicated to the American West. He had donated some money, they had a bronze sculpture of him and it was a benefit performance.

He played a classical guitar and sang mostly songs off the wayfaring stranger album (leatherwing bat, lavendar cowboy, etc). In between songs he stretched his hands and fingers and mentioned his "rheumatiz". He seemed tired and had a problem walking.

He was a great and very sensitive singer. Even as he was obviously not feeling well he gave a great performance.
