As I'm sure almost any followers of this blog are aware, the great Doc Watson passed away Tuesday. I won't go into details of his phenomenal life, those who are curious can read the New York Times obituary here.
In memory of Doc, I present the first four albums he recorded for the Vanguard label, 1964-1966. These are not my transfers, and these folders don't contain any back jacket or label scans, but I believe this incredible material speaks for itself.
Long live the music of Doc Watson!

Hi Lefty. Thanks for this great Doc tribute. I have shared this story at other blogs, but it deserves retelling here: Now I gotta share one first-person Doc story. I was at Merle Fest awaiting the start of the guitar picking competition. All the contestants waited backstage as the master of ceremonies introduced Doc and asked Doc to pick a tune on the new guitar that would go to the winner. Following Doc's virtuoso performance, the MC called for contestant number one. After a lengthy delay, the MC returned and announced that "Contestant number one has lit out the back door. Apparently he thought Doc was contestant number one." To which Doc replied: "I feel right sorry for that ole boy." Pretty well sums up the man and his talent.
Many Thanks from Germany !!!!
Many thanks, so good music from so great musician, blind for the world not for our heart!
This is one of the guys who got me into ole time and bluegrass music. The guy was great no matter what he played or sang.
Hey Iggy,
That's a great story, thanks for sharing!

Thanks a bunch for this. I'm a cab driver in Dublin Ireland and picked up an old blues head last night who recommended Doc Watson. While I know and love many genres of music I know relatively little about the blues, except for a smattering and our own Rory Gallagher, of course. Looking forward to the education. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for your thoughtful post.
Cheers from Kansas.
